NOTICE

The Floyd County Police Department has seen an increase of vehicle break-ins over the last 2-3 weeks.   They've targeted several areas in the county, including:

Floyds Knobs - near Weber Lane / Andrew Drive
New Albany Area:  St. Joesph Road (Carver/Fisk)
New Albany Area:  Koehler Place, County Line Rd, Julian Drive

Witnesses indicated that they've seen two white males (possible juveniles), one described wearing a red "hoddie" sweatshirt.    The suspects have been breaking into vehicle mainly in the early morning hours based on the reports that are being taken on 1st shift starting at 6:00 a.m.    

I have personally taken 4 reports and I did not see forced entry into the vehicles.    The suspects are taking stereo components (electronics), CD's and other valuables.    

See TIPS below regarding securing your property:

1. Always lock your vehicle if you're leaving the vehicle outside a garage.   Always remove your purse, wallets and other valuables from the vehicle if parked outside your residence.    Criminals are looking for items that they can sell of value: IPOD's, Golf Clubs, Laptops, Cell Phones, CD's, etc.    Criminals will remove expensive car stereos (amps, receivers and sub-woofer's).

2. If you park outside on the street, in your driveway and you've a garage door opener inside your vehicle.   REMOVE the garage door opener from your vehicle at night.    Criminals will gain entry into your vehicle and open your garage door.   

It is the season.....criminals are targeting areas in the County for theft.   Make sure your property is secure and be one step ahead of them in the fight for crime!
